The Auto app icon doesn't adjust between Dark and Light mode
There are a few things that could be preventing Dumb Phone's "Auto" app icon from seamlessly adjusting between a Light or Dark style.
Automatic Light & Dark Mode toggle
If you are relying on iOS to automatically switch between Light and Dark Mode, please confirm the Automatic toggle has been configured for this.
- Open iOS Settings → Display & Brightness
- Set the Automatic toggle to ON
iOS will now automatically switch between Light or Dark Mode depending on the time of day, and adjust app icons to suit.
Home Screen style
Apply the correct style so all app icons will follow the system Light or Dark Mode style.
For iOS 26
Ensure the configured Home Screen style is set to Dark and Auto.
- Long-press on the Home Screen → Edit → Customize
- Select the Dark style
- Select Auto from the slider that appears
For iOS 18
Ensure the configured Home Screen style is set to Automatic.
- Long-press on the Home Screen → Edit → Customize
- Select Automatic
Other options
If the Auto app icon still does not automatically adjust between Light and Dark mode, please restart your device.
Re-installing Dumb Phone is another option, although you will need to set up your Home Screen again.
Sometimes iOS can simply bug out like this when using alternate app icons, but it is very rare.
